The HVAC Loop
If air filters weren't replaced after construction, the HVAC system keeps recirculating trapped dust every time it runs — effectively reintroducing what was just cleaned up. Replacing filters is a required step, not an optional one.
Airborne Particles Take Time to Settle
Fine drywall dust in particular stays suspended in the air far longer than heavier debris. What looks like clean surfaces right after a cleaning pass can still have dust settling out of the air for days afterward.
Why One Pass Isn't Enough
This is exactly why a single cleaning pass rarely resolves the problem completely — a second pass, timed a few days after the first, catches what was still airborne initially.
Soft Surfaces Hold onto It
Upholstery, curtains, and carpet trap fine dust deeply enough that a surface wipe won't fully clear it — these need the same deeper extraction cleaning used for other embedded allergens.
Breaking the Cycle
Replace HVAC filters, schedule a follow-up pass a few days out, and address soft surfaces directly rather than just wiping hard surfaces repeatedly. Combined, these three steps are what actually stop the dust from reappearing — not more frequent wiping of the same visible surfaces.
