The Rules That Apply to Every Stain
Blot, don't rub — rubbing spreads the stain and pushes it deeper into the fibers. Use cold water only; hot water can set a stain permanently by bonding pigment to the fiber.
Wine
Blot up as much as possible first, then treat with a mix of a small amount of dish soap, white vinegar, and warm water, blotting until the stain lifts. Rinse with cold water afterward.
Coffee
Coffee's oils and dark pigment respond to the same dish soap and vinegar solution, sprayed on and blotted repeatedly until the stain fades.
Pet Stains
Pet urine needs a different approach entirely — the proteins in it cause the lingering smell, so a standard cleaner won't fully resolve it. An enzymatic cleaner made for pet stains breaks down what's actually causing the odor, not just the visible mark.
